As of July, 2000, there were over 2.2 billion unique pages on the Web, with seven million new pages added each day. Of course, that doesn't account for the other data streams that are also swirling around us: books, magazines, newspapers, radio and TV broadcasts, musical recordings, audiobooks, e-books, software, videos, films, photographs, and more and more and more.

So, how does an info-savvy citizen of the global village keep from drowning in the onrushing torrents of data?
